Carvin Corporation is an American guitar, musical instrument and equipment manufacturer located in San Diego, California. Carvin was founded in Southern California 1946 by Lowell Kiesel as the L.C. Kiesel, and originally manufactured guitar pickups.
Carvin developed its own niche in the musical instrument world in the 1970s by only selling directly to the public via mail order, which made their equipment more cost-competitive than the leading brands. In the 1980s they began offering guitars and basses built to a customer’s specifications, based on available body shapes, woods, colors, electronics and other features. This allowed customers to order a guitar or bass guitar that was a made-to-order instrument, versus a mass-produced instrument sold at a retailer.
