Pharrell Williams features on the top two selling singles

According to NME and the Official Charts Company’s sales data, 2013 looks set to be the biggest year for singles sales in British history. The increase in sales is due largely in part to the dominance of the digital download market.

Singles are up 2.5% from this time last year. The surge is aided by the giant success of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, which has sold over a million copies. Another major contributor is Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” which also features Pharrell Williams and has sold more than 828,000 copies. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s “Thrift Shop” fills in the third top spot, with more than 680,000 copies sold.
